The Craftsman with the Golden Heart by Aleesha Magpayo
“To Joel Magpayo, the most interesting man I know”
The Craftsman with the Golden Heart
A discreet thinker,
An ingenious being,
With a hushed demeanour
What you didn’t say with your mouth
You said with your golden heart
With your wise hands
And your telling eyes
A father of five but a carer of many more
A man of 79 years with a legacy of many more
A legacy riddled with painted pictures
Of patient passion.
Leaving behind a tree of genes,
extending to four generations.
Leaving behind a yearning crowd of kin,
And here, right now,
Time is not our friend.
Bodies made from dust will dim
But the soul is light forever,
And although it hurts
It’s goodbye, just for now
And although it hurts
He will hold you once again
